School and Community

Middletown High School is the only high school in the Appoquinimink School District, the fastest growing district in Delaware.  The school district covers territory from above the C&D canal to the southern tip of New Castle County and incorporates agricultural land as well as many small towns.  Increasingly it is attracting families who work for the large, multinational corporations located in northern New Castle County, Southern New Jersey, and the Philadelphia area.  Despite the rapid expansion, Middletown High School still maintains the feel of a small-town high school and there is a great sense of community. Middletown High School currently serves approximately 2300 students.  The student body is composed of a variety of socio-economic and ethnic groups.  In January 1997, Middletown High School moved into a new 156,000 square foot building.  A 47,000 square foot addition has been added and opened for the 2002 - 2003 school year.  The building has a fully networked computer system with updated hardware and software installed in the summer of 2001.  Students have access to the school’s network and to the Internet in all academic classrooms, five computer labs, and in a computer aided drafting lab.  The school facility also contains a shared public/school library and state service center as well as an 830 seat auditorium and a 1,200 seat gymnasium.  Middletown High School is proud of our academic programs and of its students’ recent state and AP test results (state test results available at http://www.doe.state.de.us/aab/DSTPLinks.htm).  Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities ranging from athletics to musical and theatrical performance and a variety
