Guidance / Career Services School and CommunityMiddletown High School is one of two high schools in the Appoquinimink School District (ASD), the fastest growing district in Delaware. ASD covers territory from above the C&D canal to the southern tip of New Castle County and incorporates agricultural land, as well as, many small towns. Increasingly, it is attracting families who work for the large, multinational corporations located in northern New Castle County, Southern New Jersey, Maryland and the Philadelphia area. Despite the rapid expansion, Middletown High School still maintains the feel of a small-town high school and there is a great sense of community. Middletown High School currently serves approximately 1900 students. The student body is composed of a variety of socio-economic and ethnic groups. In January 1997, Middletown High School moved into a new 156,000 square foot building. A 47,000 square foot addition was added and opened for the 2002 - 2003 school year. The building has a fully networked computer system with updated hardware and software that was installed in the summer of 2001. Students have access to the school’s network and to the internet in all academic classrooms, five computer labs, and in a computer aided drafting lab. The school facility houses a well-stocked school library, a state service center, an 830 seat auditorium and a 1, 200 seat gymnasium. Middletown High School is proud of its academic programs and of its students’ recent AP and state test results. State test results are available at http://www.doe.state.de.us/aab/DSTPLinks.htm. Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities. These activities include: athletics, musical and theatrical performances and a variety of student organizations. Middletown High School operates on a seven period day and offers students college preparatory, honors, advanced placement and technical preparatory courses.
